Where are the Regency Gloves?

I've done my research on gloves to wear with my Regency gown...alas I cannot find any on-line or in the Washington DC area. I've been looking since last summer. The bridal shops do not carry them and I have not find any in the resale stores in the area. I think they are also called opera gloves and should come up over the elbow and be a bit saggy in that area, but not shiny like satin. No rush since I have no Jane Austen events or anything to attend, no deadlines, simply a desire to be ready if an event delightfully comes our way!  Help? Thanks!

  1. Dear lahbluebonnet,
Afternoon! Consignment or vintage clothing shops here often carry them, and that's where I have found mine. Etsy sellers have them too: the trick there is sizing :P

    Very best,

  3. i've had good luck in antique stores. i found out i wear a size 7, since that's what i always end up buying in vintage gloves. very helpful to know your size in something like this, then you can buy gloves on ebay or etsy with a bit more confidence.

  4. Thank you, Samantha! We have an antique store just down the road I've been meaning to check out. I should figure out my glove size.

  5. I like to keep an eye on ebay for low prices. Knowing your glove size is really important, so you don't waste money on gloves that don't fit.

  6. Finding the right style of evening glove seems like the Holy Grail of Regency costuming. I fantasize about ordering a pair of kidskin opera/debutante gloves, which seem to be the closest thing available, at least new, but they're crazy expensive. But I'll probably attempt to make some instead. Good luck in your search!
